We received a call from our placement coordinator on a Friday about 445pm, there was a nine day old baby girl being sent home Monday from a local NICU and she wanted to know if we were interested. She wasn't able to give us any info about the baby's future or about whether this would be a short term placement, long term placement or forever placement...we were driving after leaving the gun range, and I had her on speaker phone so JC could hear all the details of the call...I looked at him and to my surprise he said "yes"!!!! After the painful relocation of our previous placement, I was surprised to hear him with so much certainty say "yes"...it was an answer to my prayers! Then we waited the whole painful weekend to see if we were the ones "picked" by CPS for this baby girls placement...this was the most exciting and painful weekend ever!!!! Monday morning I received the call that we had been picked and I could expect a call from her caseworker about going to get her from the hospital. I was dancing and squealing with excitement, JC was excited too but he doesn't show it like me!! HA!
Her caseworker called me and we set up a meeting time at the hospital, she told me "you are going to love her, she is so cute and loves to smile"...the anticipation was almost too much!
We arrived at the hospital and had to wait outside the NICU until the caseworker got there...being on the other side of the NICU as a parent was a interesting place for me to be! Once we were allowed in the NICU, I saw the caseworker holding the baby and she said to me "here's your baby" and I ran washed my hands and took her. She weighed 5lbs and was the sweetest little thing ever!!! I changed her and fed her, talked to the neonatologist about her medical history, signed my life away to CPS and the hospital and then we had her in the truck and we were on our way home! The CPS worker had told us several times that this would be a short term placement, she didn't think she'd be with us very long for various reasons...well three months later she is still here and will be here for the holidays, and we continue to pray for her future after that.
When she came home, she slept and never cried. In fact JC was sure something was wrong because she never made a peep! This lasted for about 2 months, well now this little girl has opinions about everything! She has our entire lives upside down and we are loving every minute of it! She smiles and laughs and then a few seconds later will be yelling at us to do something different with her. She is so much fun and has brought joy to our lives that we didn't even know we were missing!
She has fit right in to our lives, and our friends and family have accepted her as our baby whether that be temporary or forever. The people close to us who have supported us and love this little one as much as we do, are priceless...the kind words, prayers, visits, texts, gifts and love we have received are overwhelming and I cannot thank y'all enough! I ask that y'all continue to pray for our little girl, and that the future outcomes of her case are what is very best for her!!! She deserves nothing less!
And on a random side note, my most favorite thing in the world is to watch Ryan with B. He LOVES her, and he LOVES to feed her! It's the most special thing in the world to watch Ryan, who I brought home from the hospital with my Mom 11 years ago love her so so much. God has been very good to us through the foster care system, and I'm blessed to witness these two miracles.
Ryan proudly and happily feeding B!
